What each seat is

  • MelurMelur is the granite-and-paddy belt east of Madurai, a taluk town that runs into the Sirumalai foothills and the cotton fields of Sivaganga.
  • Madurai EastMadurai East (AC 189) covers the eastern edge of the temple city, taking in Othakkadai, Vilangudi, the Madurai Kamaraj University belt and the dense urban wards along the Madurai-Melur road.
  • SholavandanSholavandan is the Vaigai-plain belt on Madurai's western edge, a stretch of paddy, banana and the state's earliest organic-farming experiments.
  • Madurai NorthMadurai North (AC 191) stretches along the Vaigai's north bank, covering Anna Nagar North, Iyer Bungalow, K. Pudur, Tahsildar Nagar and the older trader pockets near Goripalayam and Munichalai.
  • Madurai SouthMadurai South (AC 192) covers the southern approaches of Madurai city, including the Vandiyur tank precinct (site of the famed Float Festival, Theppam), parts of Tirumalai Nayak's old fortified palace district, and the city's southern industrial fringes.
  • Madurai CentralMadurai Central (AC 193) is the heart of the temple city — the wards immediately around Meenakshi Amman temple, the four Masi streets, Simmakkal, Town Hall Road, West Perumal Maistry Street and the trader belt around Pudhumandapam.
  • Madurai WestMadurai West (AC 194) sweeps from Avaniyapuram through Thirupparankundram road into Sellur, Villapuram and the western suburbs along the Madurai-Theni highway.
  • ThiruparankundramThiruparankundram (AC 195) wraps around one of the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan (Aru Padai Veedu), the 8th-century Pandya rock-cut temple where Murugan is worshipped with his consort Deivanai as the Wedded Form.
  • ThirumangalamThirumangalam (AC 196) sits on the south-western edge of Madurai district, ringing Madurai International Airport and the Vaigai delta's rice country.
  • UsilampattiUsilampatti is an assembly constituency in Madurai district, about 40 km west of Madurai city near the Andipatti and Theni district borders.
