Between 25–26 May 2026, four AIADMK MLAs from the Velumani-Shanmugam rebel faction resigned and joined the ruling TVK at a meeting with general secretary Aadhav Arjuna. Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar accepted all four resignations; the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat formally informed the Election Commission of India on 26 May. By-elections are now expected in Madurantakam, Dharapuram, Perundurai and Ambasamudram.

25 May 2026: Three rebel MLAs — Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai) — meet Speaker, tender resignations, join TVK.
26 May 2026: Essaki Subbaiah (Ambasamudram) becomes the 4th MLA to quit; Speaker initially requests a handwritten version, then accepts. Assembly Secretariat informs ECI of 4 vacancies.
27 May 2026: AIADMK factions reconcile; both Schedule X petitions withdrawn; rebels apologise to EPS. "No split in party, only differences of opinion" — SP Velumani.
