Quick answers: Madurantakam and Dharapuram by-election result

When is the Madurantakam and Dharapuram by-election result?
Counting is on Friday 9 October 2026, starting at 8 AM. Postal ballots are counted first, then the voting-machine votes round by round. Each seat's result is declared by the Returning Officer after the last round.
Who is leading in Madurantakam and Dharapuram?
The leader, party, votes and lead margin of each seat are shown at the top of this page once counting starts. The numbers come from the Election Commission's results site and this page checks them every minute; the time of the last check is shown.
What is the difference between 'leading' and 'won'?
A candidate is 'leading' while rounds are still being counted and 'won' only after the Election Commission shows the seat as declared. Early leads can change as more rounds come in.
Why can the postal vote show a different leader?
Postal ballots are counted first and are a small part of the total, about 1% of votes in April 2026. In April the postal vote went to the DMK in both seats while the AIADMK won on voting-machine votes, so an early postal lead says little about the final result.
How many candidates are in the contest?
27 candidates in Madurantakam and 22 in Dharapuram. Both seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes.
Which party held these seats before?
Both seats were won by the AIADMK in April 2026 (Madurantakam by 7,194 votes and Dharapuram by 16,727 votes). Both MLAs resigned on 25 May 2026 and joined the ruling TVK, which is why the by-elections were held.
Where can I see the turnout?
Turnout was recorded hour by hour on polling day, 6 October. See the turnout page, which compares each hour with April 2026.
