AIADMK has held Sankari for four straight cycles since 2011 (Vijayalakshmi Palanisamy, Raja, Sundararajan, Vetrivel) after DMK's V. P. Duraisamy took the pre-delimitation seat in 2006.
About Sankari
Sankari, also known as Sangagiri, sits on NH-44 between Salem and Erode and is famed for its hilltop fort built in the Tipu Sultan era and its truck-tyre retreading industry on the highway. The seat includes Sankari taluk and parts of Omalur taluk, and falls within the Namakkal Lok Sabha constituency. Around 2.41 lakh voters polled in 2026. AIADMK has won here through 2011, 2016, 2021 and 2026, anchored by Kongu Vellalar and Vanniyar support. Local issues centre on the Cauvery drinking water pipeline, NH-44 expansion takings and the rice-milling cluster's power costs.
Plan a Sankari trip
Climb Sankari Drug fort in the early morning for the wide Kongu plains view, then drive through the rice-mill belt towards Bhavani sangamam where the Cauvery, Bhavani and the mythical Amudha rivers meet. NH-44 makes Erode and Salem easy add-ons.
