About Omalur
Omalur is a taluk town between Salem city and the Yercaud foothills, sitting on NH-44 and famous for its silver anklet trade and the Omalur cattle fair. The constituency includes Omalur municipality and rural blocks pushing toward Mettur and Tharamangalam. Around 2.68 lakh voters polled in 2026, the highest in this Salem cluster. AIADMK has held the seat across the last four assemblies, often by very wide margins, and the party's organisational strength among the Kongu Vellalar and Vanniyar communities remains intact. Local debates revolve around the Omalur Mariamman temple festival logistics, NH-44 service road work and the silver-anklet artisans' GST grievances.
Plan an Omalur trip
Pick up Omalur silver anklets from the bazaar lanes, then visit the Tharamangalam Kailasanathar temple for its famed Vijayanagara-era stone work. Yercaud is a 30-km climb away, with Pagoda Point and Lady's Seat on the loop.
