About Mettur

Mettur is the dam town on the Kaveri at the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, home to the Stanley Reservoir, Mettur Thermal Power Station and a cluster of chemical and rayon factories. The constituency includes Mettur municipality, Pallipalayam-side villages and the dam colony. Around 2.28 lakh voters polled in 2026. Mettur is famously a knife-edge seat: three of the last four contests were decided by under 7,000 votes, and PMK, DMDK, AIADMK and DMK have all been competitive here. Cauvery release timing, dam tourism upkeep and chemical factory pollution are perennial local pressure points.
