Salem South — TVK's Vijay Tamilan Parthiban takes Steel City seat by 33,369 votes
TVK's A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban won Salem (South) — the southern half of TN's Steel City and a companion seat to Salem West, where TVK posted a 74,867-vote sweep — by 33,369 votes over DMK's M. Loganathan. The seat had been a three-cycle AIADMK fortress: E. Balasubramanian won in 2021 by 22,609 votes; A. B. Sakthivel in 2016 by 30,453; M. K. Selvaraju in 2011 by a 60,215-vote landslide. The 2026 result is the first non-AIADMK win in the post-delimitation history of Salem South, and follows the broader Salem-region collapse of the AIADMK bloc that also delivered Salem West and Salem North to TVK.

Salem (South) was created by the 2008 delimitation; pre-2008 the area voted in the older Salem-I and Salem-II seats. AIADMK held the seat for three consecutive cycles (2011, 2016, 2021) — and DMK was its runner-up in all three — before TVK's 33,369-vote 2026 win broke the pattern. The 2026 winner A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban shares the 'Vijay' first name with TVK's chief, but is unrelated to actor-politician Vijay's immediate family by any verified public record.
About Salem South
Salem (South) — AC 90 — covers the southern half of Salem city, the urban core of Tamil Nadu's 'Steel City'. The constituency was created by the 2008 delimitation alongside Salem North (AC 89) and Salem West (AC 88); before that, the area was split across the older Salem-I and Salem-II seats. AIADMK held this seat through three consecutive cycles (2011 → 2021), with margins of 60,215, 30,453 and 22,609 votes respectively — until TVK's 33,369-vote sweep in 2026.
Salem South & the Steel City
Salem South is the city's southern wing — the Sugavaneswarar gopuram in the old quarter, Mookaneri lake's evening crowd, and the suburbs that climb toward the Steel Plant boundary. Drive 30 km up the Shevaroy ghats to Yercaud's coffee slopes (Loop Road, Lady's Seat, Karadiyur view), or out to Sankagiri's Vijayanagara-Tipu fort and the 1934 Mettur Dam on the Cauvery. End the trip in Magudanchavadi for the Kongu-style country-chicken kulambu and the city's defining Salem-mango lassi.
