About Tiruppur South

Tiruppur South is the southern half of India's knitwear export hub, covering the older textile clusters around Kumaran Road, Anupparpalayam and the Avinashi Road industrial belt. The seat was carved out in the 2008 delimitation and has alternated between AIADMK and DMK since. Tiruppur city contributes the bulk of the state's hosiery exports, and migrant labour from northern districts and other states forms a sizeable section of the electorate. Polled votes have historically been lower than rural seats, with this cycle's 178,781 votes reflecting the city's mobile workforce. The seat is part of the Tiruppur Lok Sabha constituency.
