Tiruppur North — TVK's Sathyabama topples AIADMK bastion by 69,992 votes

V. Sathyabama of TVK has won Tiruppur North by a thumping 69,992 votes against AIADMK's M.S.M. Anandan, ending the AIADMK's grip on this textile and knitwear hub. The seat, carved out in the 2008 delimitation, had returned AIADMK's K.N. Vijayakumar in both 2016 (by 37,774 votes over DMK) and 2021 (by 40,102 votes over CPI). 2026 marks the first non-AIADMK victory since the constituency was created.

About Tiruppur North

Tiruppur (North) — AC 113 — covers the northern half of Tiruppur city, India's knitwear capital and the country's single biggest cotton T-shirt and innerwear export hub. Mills along the Noyyal river built the trade from the 1970s onward, and 'Banian City' now ships to Walmart, H&M and Decathlon. The seat takes in the Avinashi road industrial corridor and old-town landmarks like the Tiruppur Mariamman temple. The 8th-century Avinashi Lingeswarar temple, a key Tevaram padal-petra-sthalam, sits 15 km out on the Coimbatore highway. Dyeing-unit effluent and Noyyal restoration have been live local issues since the 2011 Madras HC order.

Knitwear mills, the Noyyal and an 8th-century Avinashi gopuram

Tiruppur North is the engine room of India's T-shirt trade — Avinashi Road lined with knitwear units that ship half the country's cotton innerwear. Stop at Tiruppur Mariamman in the old quarter, then drive 15 km to Avinashi Lingeswarar, an 8th-century Tevaram shrine. Loop back via the Noyyal riverfront and a Kongu meals plate of pirandai thuvayal and ennai kathirikai.
