About Thiyagarayanagar
Thiyagarayanagar — universally called T. Nagar — is Chennai's textile and gold retail core, named after the Justice Party leader Sir Pitti Theagaraya Chetty. The seat covers Pondy Bazaar, Ranganathan Street, Panagal Park, and parts of Mambalam and West Mambalam.
Saravana Stores, Pothys, RMKV and Nalli's flagship outlets push festival sales here past most other Indian retail clusters. It has a heavy small-trader and middle-class vote and is one of the few central-Chennai seats with regular AIADMK competitiveness.
Saree streets and Panagal Park
Brave Ranganathan Street for sarees and chudidars, then cross to Pondy Bazaar for the original Saravana Bhavan and Geetha Cafe ghee roast. Walk Panagal Park's evening flower stalls and end with sweets at Grand Sweets in Adyar or filter coffee at Mambalam's old Ratna Cafe.
