About Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar

Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (AC 11), better known as RK Nagar, is one of old Madras's defining seats — a stretch of north-Chennai's harbour fringe that takes in Royapuram, Tondiarpet, Kaladipet and parts of the port and railway colonies. Royapuram station, opened in 1856, is South India's oldest functioning railway terminus. The constituency is best remembered as Jayalalithaa's last seat — she won the 2016 by-election here and held it until her death — and centres on Stanley Medical College Hospital, the Manali tank, and the working-class neighbourhoods that grew up around the Madras Port.

RK Nagar & Old Madras Harbour

South India's oldest railway terminus, Stanley Hospital and the Royapuram fringe

RK Nagar is the working harbour edge of old Madras — Royapuram station from 1856, the Stanley Medical complex, and Tondiarpet's grid of port colonies. Walk the seafront from Tondiarpet to Kasimedu fishing harbour at dawn for fresh seer and prawn auctions, then loop back through Royapuram for biryani at one of the harbour-quarter mess shops.
