Sulur 2026: TVK squeaks past AIADMK by 4,790

TVK's NM. Sukumar took Sulur with 90,531 votes, beating sitting MLA V. P. Kandasamy by just 4,790 votes in one of the night's tightest western finishes. AIADMK had carried Sulur in both 2016 and 2021 with comfortable margins above 31,000, making the swing here one of the steeper ones in Coimbatore district.

About Sulur

Sulur sits east of Coimbatore city along the Trichy Road, anchored by the Indian Air Force station that gives the town its national footprint. The constituency takes in Sulur town, Kannampalayam and the eastern industrial belt where pump and motor units cluster. Voter turnout regularly tops 75 per cent. The seat had been an AIADMK preserve through 2016 and 2021, with V. P. Kandasamy winning in 2021 by nearly 32,000 votes against the KMDK candidate. Sulur falls within the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat and forms part of the western industrial corridor that stretches from Coimbatore to Tiruppur.

Sulur is best known for IAF Station Sulur, one of the IAF's southern operational bases. The Trichy Road corridor passes the Pattanam textile cluster and links to Karumathampatti's silk weavers. Coimbatore airport is twenty minutes west.
