Rasipuram has flipped party every cycle from 2006 onwards; 2026 makes it five different winning parties in five elections.

About Rasipuram

Rasipuram sits on the dry plateau between the Kollimalai foothills and the Cauvery delta, anchoring the western half of Namakkal district. The town has built itself on handloom silk, beedi rolling and a noisy weekly cattle shandy that draws traders from Salem and Erode. The constituency takes in Mallasamudram, Namagiripettai and a string of weaving villages along the Cauvery bank, with poultry farms and small textile units providing most of the wage work. Politically it has flipped between DMK and AIADMK every cycle since 2006, never giving the same party two terms in a row, which is why every leadership treats the seat as a barometer of the western belt.

Things to do in Rasipuram

Silk weaves, hill shrines and the Mallasamudram weekly shandy

Rasipuram silk saris are still woven on pit looms in lanes around the bus stand, and a morning walk through the weaver quarter is the cheapest local tour going. Drive 20 km north to the Kolli hills base for the Arapaleeswarar temple at Namagiripettai, or time a Friday visit for the Mallasamudram cattle shandy where Kongu farmers haggle over Kangayam bulls.
