About Namakkal

Namakkal town is best known for two things: the giant Anjaneyar statue that stares at the rock fort, and the lorry-body fabrication yards that ring the bypass. The district headquarters runs on poultry (Namakkal supplies a quarter of India's table eggs), truck transport and education, with a cluster of medical colleges and CBSE schools drawing students from across the Kongu belt. The constituency wraps the town and a ring of villages towards Mohanur on the Cauvery. AIADMK held the seat in 2011 and 2016 before DMK's Ramalingam swept it in 2021; 2026 hands it to TVK.

Things to do in Namakkal

Rock fort, hilltop Anjaneyar and a lorry-yard town

Climb the 8th-century Namakkal rock fort at sunrise for a view that takes in the entire poultry plain, then walk down to the rock-cut Narasimhar and Ranganathar cave temples at its base. The 18-foot Anjaneyar statue facing the fort is among the tallest in the country, and from Namakkal it's a 50-km drive east to the Kolli hills 70-hairpin-bend road.
