Thiruverumbur 2026: TVK ousts minister Anbil Mahesh by 8,705
TVK's S. Vijayakumar (alias Navalpattu Viji) took Thiruverumbur with 89,837 votes, unseating DMK school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi by 8,705 votes. Poyyamozhi had won this seat in 2016 and again in 2021 by a thumping 49,697 votes, making the loss one of the cycle's high-profile DMK setbacks.

About Thiruverumbur
Thiruverumbur sits east of Tiruchirappalli city, anchored by the Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) township and the Thiruverumbur temple town with its Erumbeeswarar shrine. The seat takes in the BHEL industrial belt, the Trichy IIT campus zone and parts of the southern Cauvery bank. DMK's Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, son of former minister Anbil Poyyamozhi, won here in 2016 and 2021 and served as Tamil Nadu's school education minister. Polled votes were 210,777 this cycle in a 27-candidate field. The seat falls within the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency.
Thiruverumbur travel
Thiruverumbur is best known for the hill-top Erumbeeswarar temple from where the Cauvery and the BHEL township spread below, and for the BHEL Trichy plant that anchors the area's industry. The Trichy rock fort and Srirangam are a short drive west.
