About Manachanallur

Manachanallur sits on the north bank of the Cauvery in Tiruchirappalli district and is famous for its parboiled rice mills, which give the town its 'rice city' tag. The constituency was carved out in the 2008 delimitation from parts of the old Lalgudi seat, and covers the Manachanallur and Andanallur blocks along with Tiruverumbur fringes. Around 207,000 voters polled this cycle across roughly 290 booths. AIADMK won the maiden 2011 contest and again in 2016 by a thin 7,522-vote margin; DMK's Kathiravan flipped it in 2021 and has now defended it through a much tighter four-way fight.

Cauvery towns near Tiruchirappalli

Manachanallur town is the obvious stop for the parboiled-rice mill cluster, but the surrounding belt rewards a longer drive. Kallanai (Grand Anicut), the second-century Chola dam, is a short hop south on the Cauvery, and Samayapuram Mariamman temple sits on the Trichy-Chennai NH-38 just east of the constituency.
