About Pattukkottai
Pattukkottai is the agricultural hub of southern Thanjavur, halfway between the Cauvery delta and the dryer Pudukkottai uplands. The town built its reputation on coconut, groundnut and the cinema-songwriting legacy of Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram. Booth politics here usually splits between the irrigated paddy belts in the north and the rainfed groundnut tracts in the south.
The seat had been an INC stronghold under N. R. Rengarajan through the 2000s before AIADMK and DMK began trading it - Annadurai's win consolidates the DMK shift that began in 2021.
