About Thiruvidaimarudur
Thiruvidaimarudur takes its name from the Mahalingaswamy temple, a Pancha Bhoota Sthala dedicated to the earth element, that draws scholars and devotees through the year. The constituency is dense temple country - Swamimalai, Kumbakonam and Suryanar Koil are within a short drive - and the local economy mixes priestcraft, brassware, and Cauvery-fed paddy. Govi Chezhiaan has held this seat since 2011 across three elections decided by 394, 532 and 10,680 votes; the 2026 result is the first time he is not in a knife-edge contest.
Around Thiruvidaimarudur
The Mahalingaswamy temple morning aarti is the reason most people come - go for the 6am opening. Pair it with a trip to Swamimalai 12 km away to watch lost-wax bronze casting, then end with filter coffee on Kumbakonam's Big Street.
