Orathanadu — R. Vaithilingam returns on DMK ticket, takes the Pattukottai paddy belt
Veteran R. Vaithilingam — who held Orathanadu for the AIADMK in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2021 — won the seat in 2026 over TVK's Dr K. Arvind, this time on the DMK ticket. The four-time AIADMK MLA's switch is one of the headline crossovers of the election.
Orathanadu has otherwise been a steady AIADMK pocket — Vaithilingam's only loss here was to DMK's M. Ramachandran in 2016 by 3,645 votes. Orathanadu also carries political weight as the rural backyard of the Sasikala family — long-time aide of J. Jayalalithaa — whose Mannargudi roots lie a short drive away.
