About Modakkurichi
Modakkurichi (AC 100) is an Erode-district seat in the Kongu region, sitting between the turmeric mandis of Erode town and the Bhavani river. The constituency feeds into the GI-tagged Erode turmeric trade — the price benchmark for Indian curcumin — and the handloom and powerloom clusters that run from Chennimalai to Bhavani.
The 200-acre Vellode bird sanctuary, notified in 1996 around Periyakulam tank, draws painted storks and pelicans every winter. North-east, at the Bhavani-Cauvery sangam, the Sangameshwarar temple marks one of South India's three river confluences.

Start at Erode's turmeric mandi for the smell of fresh-dried curcumin, then drive out to the Vellode bird sanctuary — 200 acres around Periyakulam tank, busy with painted storks in winter. Cross north-east to Bhavani for the Sangameshwarar temple at the Cauvery-Bhavani sangam, and pick up a Bhavani jamakkalam carpet on the way back.
