About Gobichettipalayam

Gobichettipalayam, called Gobi by everyone, sits in the northern Erode district at the foot of the Sathyamangalam hills. The town runs on sugar mills, sericulture and a sprawling weekly market that draws tribal traders from the hill villages. The constituency takes in Sathyamangalam town, Bhavanisagar and the gateway villages to the tiger reserve. K.A. Sengottaiyan first won this seat in 1989 as a DMK candidate, switched to AIADMK in the 1990s and held it for the party across six terms; his break with EPS in 2025 and move to TVK turned the 2026 contest into one of the most-watched races in the western belt. The 2026 result confirms his personal hold over the seat survives any party label.
