About Bhavani
Bhavani town stands at the meeting point of the Bhavani river and the Cauvery, one of the three sacred sangamams of South India along with Triveni Sangam and Mukkudal. The constituency runs from the riverbank temple town through the Sathyamangalam plains to the foothills near Anthiyur. Bhavani Jamakkalam, the cotton carpet weave that the town has produced for two centuries, has a GI tag and still employs thousands in lanes around the bazaar. AIADMK has held the seat in 2001, 2011, 2016 and 2021; PMK won an upset in 2006. K.C. Karuppannan first won here in 2001 and is back in 2026 for his fourth term as MLA.
Things to do in Bhavani
The Sangameswarar temple at the Bhavani-Cauvery confluence is one of the three Triveni-class sangamams; the temple is built right on the riverbed and floods every monsoon. Bhavani Jamakkalam carpet weavers in the bazaar lanes still work on traditional pit looms with the GI mark. From Bhavani it is a 60-km drive to the Sathyamangalam tiger reserve gate at Hasanur.
