Tiruchuli 2026: Thangam Thennarasu wins fourth term by 13,485 votes
Finance minister Thangam Thennarasu took Tiruchuli for a fourth straight time with 75,085 votes, holding off TVK's S. Samayan by 13,485 votes. The margin is the lowest of his Tiruchuli career, but the DMK senior comfortably saw off a 24-cornered field that scattered the anti-incumbent vote.

About Tiruchuli
Tiruchuli is a small temple town in Virudhunagar district, best known as the birthplace of the saint Ramana Maharshi. The constituency stretches across the dry farmland south of the Vaigai, taking in Tiruchuli town, Narikudi block and a string of dry-zone villages where rain-fed agriculture, cotton, chillies and goat-rearing dominate. The town's Bhuminatha Swamy temple and the Maharshi Ashram pull a steady trickle of pilgrims. Thangam Thennarasu, a Tamil scholar and senior DMK minister, has built the seat into one of his party's safest in the southern districts since 2011, although the 2026 margin tightened sharply.
Plan a visit
Visit the Bhuminatha Swamy temple where Ramana Maharshi was born, walk through the small Maharshi memorial in town, and drive out to Aruppukkottai's weaving clusters. Madurai's Meenakshi temple is the natural extension for a southern circuit.
