Sattur 2026: DMK's Kadarkarairaj edges BJP state chief Nainar by 5,989
DMK's A. Kadarkarairaj won Sattur with 62,060 votes, holding back BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on 56,071 in a tight 23-candidate scrum. The 5,989-vote margin denies the BJP a marquee victory in the south and rewards Kadarkarairaj's long persistence — he ran second here back in 2011.

About Sattur
Sattur (AC 204) sits at the busy junction of NH-44 and the Madurai-Tirunelveli rail line, an old market town built on cotton ginning, fireworks supply units to neighbouring Sivakasi and the Sattur cardamom-spice mix. Constituency villages spread out across Vembakottai, Tiruchuli (the birth town of Ramana Maharshi) and Virudhunagar district's eastern fringe. AIADMK held the seat in 2011 and 2016 with R. B. Udhaya Kumar and S. G. Subramanian; MDMK's A. R. R. Raghuraman won as a DMK ally in 2021.
When you are in Sattur
Drive out to Tiruchuli for the Bhuminatha Swamy temple where Ramana Maharshi was born, then come back into Sattur for a packet of the famous Sattur achu murukku — the cone-press makers along the bazaar still sell them straight off the wood-fire kadai. Vembakottai's tank fills up nicely after the northeast monsoon.
