About Aruppukkottai
Aruppukkottai is a textile and trading town in Virudhunagar district, on the road between Madurai and Tuticorin. The constituency is set in the dry, palmyra-fringed plains south of the Vaigai and takes in the municipality plus the surrounding villages of Aruppukkottai taluk.
The economy runs on handloom and powerloom units, the famous Aruppukkottai sarees, oilseed and cotton trade, and a long-standing co-operative weaving network. Politically the seat has swung between DMK and AIADMK since the 1990s, with KKSSR Ramachandran turning it into a DMK fortress across 2016 and 2021. It sits within the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha seat.
