About Thiruvottiyur
Thiruvottiyur (AC 10) is the industrial-spiritual northern edge of Chennai, where the Coromandel coast meets the Manali petrochemical belt and Ennore Port. The Vadivudai Amman–Thyagaraja Swami temple here dates from Pallava times in the 7th century and was greatly expanded by the Cholas in the 11th — Sundarar, one of the four Tamil Saiva saints, sang of this shrine in the Tevaram. The Buckingham Canal and Ennore Creek brush the constituency's eastern flank, while CPCL's refinery, Manali's chemical units and the Tiruvottiyur auto-ancillary cluster define its working-class economic spine.
Thiruvottiyur & the North Chennai Coast
Thiruvottiyur balances a Pallava-era Shiva shrine sung by Sundarar against the smoke-stacks of the CPCL refinery up the road. Walk the Vadivudai Amman temple corridors at dusk, then drive north past the Manali chemical belt to Ennore Creek's mangroves and the fishing villages of the Buckingham Canal mouth.
