About Kattumannarkoil
Kattumannarkoil is a reserved (SC) seat in Cuddalore district and the home base of VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan, who has built the constituency into a Dalit-political stronghold. The town sits on the Kollidam (Coleroon) banks and serves as taluk headquarters for a paddy hinterland between Chidambaram and Sirkazhi. The Anantheeswarar temple anchors the town, and the constituency reaches into Sirkazhi country — birthplace of the child saint Tirugnana Sambandar, whose 71 Tevara Patikams are the largest body of work in the Saivite canon. Vaitheeswaran Koil, a Navagraha shrine to Mars and Lord Vaidyanathar the healer, lies seven km from Sirkazhi.
Kollidam & Sambandar Country
Begin at Kattumannarkoil's Anantheeswarar temple on the Kollidam, then drive 25 km to Sirkazhi, birthplace of the child saint Sambandar, whose 71 Tevaram hymns are the largest in the Saivite canon. Push on to Vaitheeswaran Koil — the Navagraha temple for Mars where Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanathar the healer — and finish with thalapakatti biryani on the Chidambaram road.
