About Cuddalore
Cuddalore is the port-and-district-headquarters seat of Cuddalore district, on the Bay of Bengal where the Gadilam meets the sea. The AC covers Cuddalore town, the SIPCOT chemical-industrial estate, the Old Town fishing harbour, and the Thirupathiripuliyur belt. About 190,378 voters polled in 2026.
The seat has see-sawed: DMK's G. Iyappan won in 2006 by 6,266 votes; AIADMK's M. C. Sampath swept 2011 by 33,678 and held 2016 by 24,413; Iyappan reclaimed in 2021. TVK broke the binary in 2026.
Silver Beach and Pichavaram mangroves
Silver Beach in Cuddalore is one of the longest stretches on the Coromandel coast and is the city's main weekend draw. South of town, the Pichavaram mangrove forest at Killai offers boat rides through the world's second-largest mangrove system, and Devanampattinam fishing harbour is good for early-morning catch photography.
