About Bhuvanagiri
Bhuvanagiri is a coastal assembly seat in Cuddalore district, covering the temple town of Bhuvanagiri, the port hamlet of Pichavaram and the mangrove fringe of the Coleroon estuary. The constituency takes in Vaitheeswaran Koil, the Navagraha temple for Mars, and the Sirkazhi-adjacent paddy belt. AIADMK's Selvi Ramajayam won here in 2006 and 2011; DMK's K. Saravanan Durai took it in 2016. AIADMK's A. Arunmozhithevan, son of former minister Asaithambi, captured the seat in 2021 and held it in 2026. Bhuvanagiri sits inside the Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency, anchored by the Nataraja temple a half-hour south.
Pichavaram mangroves and the Mars temple
Pichavaram, one of the world's largest mangrove forests, runs along the Bhuvanagiri coast, with rowing-boat trips through 1,100 hectares of root channels. Vaitheeswaran Koil, the Navagraha temple linked to Mars, draws pilgrims seeking healing, and the Nataraja temple at Chidambaram is a 30-minute drive south.
