About Vilavancode
Vilavancode is the westernmost assembly seat in Tamil Nadu, hugging the Kerala border at Kaliyakkavilai where the highway crosses into Thiruvananthapuram district. The constituency takes in Marthandam, the tapioca and rubber market town, and the Kuzhithurai belt.
The economy runs on rubber sheet processing, banana and tapioca trading and a heavy remittance flow from Gulf and Kerala-side employment. Bilingual Tamil-Malayalam signage marks the seat, which has voted Congress in every assembly election since 2011, plus the 2024 byelection.
Travel from Vilavancode
The Mathur trough aqueduct, one of the longest and tallest in Asia, is a 30-minute drive from Marthandam. Pair it with a stop at Thirparappu falls and a Kerala-side lunch across the Kaliyakkavilai checkpost. The Sanguthurai and Thengapattinam beaches make a clean afternoon return loop.
