About Vikravandi
Vikravandi (AC 75) is a Viluppuram-district seat dominated by Vanniyars, many of whom form the PMK's core vote. The constituency is paddy and sugarcane country, fed by the Then Pennai system, and its eastern edge is barely 30 km from Pondicherry.
Vikravandi shot to attention in the 2024 by-election that the DMK held against PMK pressure. Beyond electoral noise, the taluk hides the 247-acre Tiruvakkarai fossil-wood park — 20-million-year-old petrified trees, gazetted as a National Geo-heritage Monument since 1940.
Vikravandi & the fossil forest
Drive 1 km east of Tiruvakkarai village to the National Fossil Wood Park — about 200 petrified trunks scattered across 247 acres, some stretching 15 metres. Pair it with the village's Chandramouleeswarar temple, then cut 30 km east to Pondicherry's French quarter for evening promenade and filter coffee. Paddy and cane fields fill the drive in between.
