About Vanur
Vanur is a coastal-adjacent SC-reserved constituency in Viluppuram district, hugging the East Coast Road belt south of Pondicherry. The seat covers Vanur and Marakkanam taluks and runs out to fishing hamlets along the Bay of Bengal. Salt pans, casuarina plantations and small-scale fishing dominate the rural economy. Around 1.91 lakh voters polled this cycle. The seat has been an AIADMK fortress through the last three cycles, and DMK's flip in 2026 marks a notable redrawing on the ECR. Local pressure points include groundwater salinity, fishing harbour upgrades and SC welfare scheme delivery.
Plan a Vanur trip
Drive the Marakkanam salt pans at sunrise then stop at the Edaiyanthittu estuary for migratory waders. Mudaliarkuppam backwater boat rides and the Kaliyamman temple at Vanur make a half-day loop off the ECR.
