About Viluppuram
Viluppuram is the district headquarters and a major railway junction on the Chennai-Tiruchi line, anchoring the Tindivanam-Cuddalore corridor. The constituency packs in the municipal town, the bus terminus belt and surrounding villages tied to sugar mills and rice processing. Around 2.13 lakh voters polled in 2026. The seat is a swing constituency with C. V. Shanmugam (AIADMK) and R. Lakshmanan (DMK) trading wins across the last four assemblies. Civic issues here include drainage on the trunk roads, goods-yard congestion and Sankarapuram-belt bus connectivity.
