Paramakudi 2026: DMK's Kathiravan flips seat by 3,548 votes
DMK candidate Advocate K.K. Kathiravan won Paramakudi with 59,161 votes, holding off TVK's G. Gopirajan by a tight 3,548 votes. With only 13 names on the ballot, Paramakudi turned into one of the cleaner two-way fights in Ramanathapuram district, and TVK's debut showing turned a traditional DMK-AIADMK swing seat into a near-photo finish.

About Paramakudi
Paramakudi is a municipal town and the second-largest urban centre in Ramanathapuram district, set on the Vaigai's lower reach where the river meets the dry coastal plain. The constituency takes in the town plus surrounding villages of Paramakudi and Kamuthi blocks. The local economy runs on cotton handloom, paddy, palmyra products, and a sizeable trading bazaar that links Madurai with Ramanathapuram and the coast. Paramakudi has a strong Dalit and minority population and has historically swung between Congress, AIADMK and DMK; the 2011 AIADMK wave handed it to S. Sundararaj, but DMK has held it in 2021 and again in 2026.
