About Mudhukulathur
Mudhukulathur is a dry-zone constituency in the south of Ramanathapuram district, taking in Mudukulathur town and the surrounding farming and palmyra villages stretching toward Kamuthi and the coast.
The seat carries a politically charged history, going back to the 1957 by-election here and the riots that followed. The economy runs on rain-fed paddy, cotton, palmyra products and the Ramnad bus-trade flow.
The constituency has rotated between AIADMK, DMK, INC and the TMC(M) at different elections since 1996.
