About Mudhukulathur
Mudhukulathur is a dry-zone constituency in the south of Ramanathapuram district, taking in Mudukulathur town and the surrounding farming and palmyra villages stretching toward Kamuthi and the coast. The seat sits in the heartland of the Mukkulathor (Thevar) community and carries a politically charged caste history, going back to the 1957 riots that shaped Forward Bloc and DMK politics in the south. The economy runs on rain-fed paddy, cotton, palmyra products and the Ramnad bus-trade flow. The constituency has rotated between AIADMK, DMK, INC and the TMC(M) in different cycles since 1996.
