Kilvelur — CPM's Latha holds the SC seat against TVK
Latha T of the CPM wins Kilvelur over TVK's P. Senthil Pandian, one of the few Left victories in the 2026 assembly. CPM's Maali had taken the seat in 2021 with 67,988 votes and a 16,985-vote lead over PMK's S. Vadivel Ravanan.
In 2016, despite the AIADMK wave, DMK's U. Mathivanan took Kilvelur from the CPM with 61,999 votes, defeating AIADMK's N. Meena by 10,170. Latha is among a small handful of CPM women MLAs in Tamil Nadu.

Kilvelur is a reserved (SC) seat in Nagapattinam district, sitting deep in the Cauvery delta where two crops of paddy a year are still possible on the alluvial plain.
The constituency contains Velankanni — the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites in Asia — and runs to the coast that bore the brunt of the December 2004 tsunami. Nagore Dargah, the 16th-century Sufi shrine of Hazrat Meeran Sahib, sits just up the coast at Nagore.
