Dharmapuri 20,896-vote win — Sowmiya Anbumani holds PMK's Vanniyar fortress

Sowmiya Anbumani — wife of former Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss and daughter-in-law of PMK founder S. Ramadoss — took Dharmapuri for PMK by 20,896 votes over TVK's M. Sivan. The seat has finished with PMK in either first or second place every election since 2006: it is the headline constituency of the Vanniyar-belt Dharmapuri-Krishnagiri-Salem arc that S. Ramadoss has built the party on. DMK did not make the top three in 2026 — DMDK's V. Elangovan finished third with 56,905 votes.

About Dharmapuri

Dharmapuri is the headline assembly constituency of the Vanniyar belt that PMK has built its political base around. The district sits at TN's northern threshold — agriculture, sandalwood reserves in the Harur-Kottapatti forests, pink-granite quarries, and the Cauvery's Hogenakkal gorge to the east. The Adhiyamankottai Fort just outside Dharmapuri town was the seat of the Sangam-era Adiyaman dynasty, the legendary patrons of the poetess Avvaiyar.

Dharmapuri & Avvaiyar Country

Where the Cauvery turns Niagara at Hogenakkal

Dharmapuri is the threshold where Tamil Nadu shades into the Cauvery's wildest stretch — Adhiyamankottai's Sangam-era ramparts whisper of Avvaiyar and her royal patron, while 50 km east the Cauvery thunders through Hogenakkal's black gorge. Beyond the headline waterfall lies a sandalwood-and-granite hinterland dotted with hill shrines like Theerthamalai and the celebrated Lambadi craft village of Sittilingi.
