About Nanguneri

Nanguneri lies on the southern lip of Tirunelveli district, the last assembly seat before the Western Ghats fold into Kanyakumari. The constituency is built around the Vanamamalai Perumal temple, an 800-year-old Vaishnavite shrine, and a string of tank-fed villages that depend on the Nambiyar river. Panagudi on NH44 is the busy lorry stop, with cement and lime industries dotting the highway between here and Kalakad. The scrub forest on the Mahendragiri foothills, ISRO's liquid propulsion test centre nearby, and remittance income from Sri Lankan-Tamil descendants give the seat an unusual mix of rural temple economy and quiet aerospace presence. The seat has flipped between AIADMK, Congress and now TVK across the last four cycles.
