Andipatti 2026: DMK's Maharajan holds Jayalalithaa's old seat by 9,554

DMK's A. Maharajan retained Andipatti with 74,324 votes, beating TVK's V. Pandi on 64,770 by 9,554 votes. The DMK margin has shrunk from 8,538 in 2021 to a comparable but tighter contest, this time against a rising TVK rather than AIADMK in a seat once associated with the late J. Jayalalithaa.

About Andipatti

Andipatti (AC 198) sits in the cardamom-and-grape belt of Theni district, taking in Andipatti town, parts of Cumbum valley and the lift-irrigation villages along the Vaigai dam canal. It first came onto the national map when J. Jayalalithaa contested and won here in 2002, and it has historically been an AIADMK stronghold under Thanga Tamil Selvan, who took it in both 2011 and 2016. DMK broke through in 2021 with A. Maharajan and held in 2026 even as the AIADMK vote splintered toward TVK.

When you are in Andipatti

Vaigai dam, cardamom estates and Cumbum valley

Drive up to the Vaigai dam at sunrise for a quiet walk along the bund and a chai at the lookout, then push into the Cumbum valley for fresh table grapes straight off the vines. The Suruli Falls trail runs past the cardamom estates and is at its best after a week of hill rain.
