The story

Tiruppattur 1-vote margin — TVK wins by a single vote, ending 4-term DMK run

TVK's R. Seenivasa Sethupathy edged DMK's K. R. Periyakaruppan — a four-term sitting MLA who had won Tiruppattur in 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021 — by just one vote: 83,375 to 83,374. Of 1,66,749 ballots cast for the top two candidates, the difference came down to a single voter. It is the narrowest assembly result anywhere in Tamil Nadu in 2026, and the end of two decades of DMK control of this Chettinad constituency.
