Sivaganga has changed hands at every cycle since 2011 - the only constant is that no party has held it for back-to-back terms.
About Sivaganga
Sivaganga is the district headquarters seat, named for the temple tank at its centre and the Marudhu Pandiyars who held the country against the East India Company in the late 18th century. The constituency is a mix of the small-trade town, the Chettinad outskirts to the south and the dry farming villages on the Tiruppattur road. The seat tends to sit with whichever side the Chettiar trader vote and the Sivaganga town middle class line up with - CPI through 2006 and 2011, AIADMK in 2016 and 2021, and now TVK.
Around Sivaganga
Karaikudi and the Chettinad village belt is 12 km south - the mansions at Kanadukathan are best on a weekday morning before the tour buses arrive. The Marudhu Pandiyar memorial in Kalayar Koil, where the brothers were hanged, is an evening stop.
