About Thiruthuraipoondi
Thiruthuraipoondi is a reserved (SC) constituency in Thiruvarur district that has stayed CPI country for most of the last two decades. The town sits at the heart of the deep Cauvery delta - paddy double-cropping where the canal water reaches, and the dry coastal belt where it doesn't. Muthupet's mangrove backwaters mark the southern edge.
The DMK and Left have run this seat together with brief AIADMK and DMK direct wins - K. Ulaganathan held it for CPI through 2006 and 2011, P. Adalarasan won for DMK in 2016, and Marimuthu put the hammer-and-sickle back up in 2021.
