About Srivaikuntam
Srivaikuntam sits on the Tamiraparani in Thoothukudi district, built around the Srivaikuntanathan Perumal temple — one of the 108 Divya Desams sung by the Alvars and the principal shrine of the Nava Tirupati cluster of nine Vishnu temples on the river's banks. Its nine-tier rajagopuram rises over paddy and palmyra. The Tamiraparani — Tamil Nadu's only perennial south-flowing river — irrigates a belt that has carried palm-leaf manuscript and copper-plate traditions for centuries. The annual Garudasevai, when all nine Nava Tirupati deities ride out together, is the river valley's biggest festival.
