Gudiyattam is an SC-reserved seat in Vellore district known for its matchstick and fireworks workshops, beedi rolling units and a long-running weaving tradition. The town sits on the Palar, ringed by villages that send produce to Vellore and Bengaluru markets.
The economy mixes small-scale industry with paddy and sugarcane in the river belt, and the political ground has historically been competitive between the Left, AIADMK and DMK, with CPI and CPI(M) winning here in 2006 and 2011.
