About Gandarvakottai
Gandarvakottai is a Scheduled Caste reserved constituency in northern Pudukkottai district, sitting on the dry uplands between the Cauvery delta and the Vaigai basin. The town owes its name to a 17th-century Tondaiman fort and the local economy runs on rainfed paddy, cotton and the Pudukkottai-Thanjavur trade route. The seat has changed hands at every election since 2011 - AIADMK in 2011 (Subramanian himself), AIADMK again under B. Arumugam in 2016, CPI(M)'s M. Chinnadurai in 2021 and now TVK in 2026. Subramanian's switch back from AIADMK to TVK between 2016 and 2026 makes this a personally distinctive result.
Around Gandarvakottai
The Sittannavasal Jain cave paintings are 30 km west - simple, quiet, and surprising for the colour that's survived since the 9th century. Pudukkottai town's Government Museum and the Tondaiman palace are easy add-ons.
