About Cheyyur
Cheyyur is a reserved (SC) coastal seat in Chengalpattu district, sitting south of Mamallapuram on the East Coast Road. The constituency takes in Tirukazhukundram, Kalpakkam's edge and the Odiyur lagoon, with paddy, cashew and salt-pan economies and a sizeable fishing belt. The proposed Cheyyur ultra-mega thermal power project shaped local politics through the 2010s before being shelved. The Vaikundaperumal temple at Cheyyur and the rock-cut shrines at Tirukazhukundram are the headline landmarks.
Lagoons south of Mamallapuram
Drive ECR past Mamallapuram and stop at the Odiyur lagoon for backwater views and a thatch-roof seafood lunch. Climb to the Vedagiriswarar temple at Tirukazhukundram for the kite-feeding ritual, and end the day at Sadras fort or the Kalpakkam beach edge before turning back to Chennai.
