AIADMK's E. C. Govindarasan won Bargur over TVK's E. Muralidharan, ending DMK's hold on the seat that D. Mathiazhagan had taken in 2021 by 12,614 votes. Govindarasan had come close before: as the DMK's candidate, he finished runner-up to V. Rajendran (AIADMK) in 2016 by a razor-thin 982 votes.
AIADMK's K. E. Krishnamoorthi had won Bargur in 2011 by 29,440 votes.

Bargur sits in northern Krishnagiri district at the foot of the Bargur hills, a tract known for the Bargur cattle breed and a forested landscape of dry deciduous slopes. The constituency covers parts of Krishnagiri and Pochampalli taluks with mango orchards, ragi fields, and quarrying units making up the rural economy.
