About Arakkonam
Arakkonam is the rail-junction headquarters of the Ranipet district's western belt, one of southern India's busiest goods-train interchanges and the home of the INS Rajali naval air station. The constituency runs across the Palar plains, with paddy, groundnut and a working leather-and-tannery economy carried over from neighbouring Walajapet.
Arakkonam town sits amid farming villages, and the seat has a steady three-cornered character.
