About Arani
Arani sits on the northern edge of Tiruvannamalai district along the Cheyyar river, a textile and silk-weaving town long known for its Arani sarees and biryani street stalls. The constituency mixes the municipal town with surrounding agrarian belts that grow paddy and groundnut. Politically the seat has swung between Dravidian majors with DMDK pulling off a one-time win in 2011 under R. M. Babu Murugavel. The voter base of roughly 2.74 lakh sits within the Arani Lok Sabha constituency, and AIADMK's hold here has been narrow in successive cycles, decided by under 8,000 votes in three of the last four contests.
