About Alangulam
Alangulam is a small town in Tenkasi district, set on the road between Tirunelveli and Tenkasi. The constituency takes in the town plus the surrounding paddy, banana and turmeric villages along the Tamiraparani belt. The economy runs on irrigated agriculture, the local cement and lime trade, and the steady flow of pilgrims using the seat as a stop on the route to Courtallam and Tenkasi. Politically the seat is most closely associated with the late Aladi Aruna, the DMK veteran who won it in 1996, and his daughter Dr. Poongothai who carried it in 2006 and 2016. P.H. Manoj Pandian won it for AIADMK in 2021 before the DMK retook it in 2026.
Plan a visit
Visit the small Alangulam Mariamman temple, drive out to Courtallam for the Main Falls during monsoon, and combine with Tenkasi's Kasi Viswanathar temple and the Papanasam dam upriver for a longer hill-and-water circuit.
